Community Outreach

In connection with the Foster Care Awareness Campaign, Children’s Law Center brought together spiritual leaders and their congregants throughout the county to consider the question, "Whose Children Are They?" in relation to the nearly 30,000 abused and neglected Los Angeles youth in foster care.  Dialogue focused on understanding how the faith-based community can better support the foster care system and more actively “parent” our foster children.

With a series of activities ongoing in May, many organizations engaged in collaborative efforts including speeches and sermons on foster care issues, articles in newsletters and bulletins, and sign-up tables after services.  Congregations representing many different faiths distributed posters referencing the CLC Birthday Project and Client Needs Fund and Make a Difference...One Child at a Time , and other ways to get involved.

Community Outreach in 2005 will expand to include a special tour of the Children's Court for clergy and members of the faith-based community and a speakers' bureau of former foster youth, attorneys, social workers, and others involved with the foster care system to speak at services and organization meetings.
